Social Media Doing it’s Bit for Charidy Mate

October 22, 2008 / by / 0 Comment

I received an email from the NetSquared UK community builder Amy Sample Ward today about the forthcoming London Net Tuesday event. If you haven’t heard of NetSquared before, it’s essentially an organisation / community setup to help charities and not for profits to engage with and use social media. Check out their site for more detail. Sounds like a great project if you ask me and if you are involved in either a. social media or b. not for profits, then you’ll probably enjoy getting involved. Amy has offered members of the LondonBloggers meetup community the opportunity to participate in the event by representing your blogging platform in a head to head blog-off debate / presentation. If you’d like to take part then just drop me a line and we can get you setup. I’m thinking about putting myself forward for the WP slot, unless someone else is particularly keen..? By the way, news on the next Bloggers meetup is that it’s coming, along with a Christmas party edition, but I’ve just been a really busy work wise recently (and actually out with a hideous cold for a week) so I’m a little behind. Keep your eyes peeled on the […]

Have you seen the Clog Blogger..?

October 13, 2008 / by / 1 Comment

Since we announced the winner of the Blog08 competition I am very excited to say that our winner Epicurienne has already jumped on her promise of setting up a clog blog. Check it out. Apparently Epic has been spotted in her Klompen all over London, last at 51.4979 -0.131643, but also on the tube and walking through Trafalgar Square, although I’m not entirely sure how many of these clog blogger sightings are hoaxes… Keep up the good work Epic and we’ll all look forward to seeing your review of Blog08 in a few weeks time.

And the Winner of Blog08 Competition is…

October 06, 2008 / by / 9 Comments

Well, in true X Factor style, I’m not going to tell you just yet… We received a handful of excellent contributions. Alison once again proved she is an excellent writer and I particularly liked the line about “not scaling Everest, fighting insurgents or hanging with the A-list…”. I might have to pick up some writing tips from you one day. Then again, Sandrine posted a pretty entertaining video, taking the please please please please let me win route. Nice work Sandrine, certainly made me laugh. Lolly’s video poem was pretty excellent too. Lulu’s approach was a bit different, although I’m not sure how pissing your children off would be a good thing : – ). No, for me, there was only one winner. I knew as soon as I saw it. Not only did it make me laugh, but I’m also very much looking forward to reading a clogblog, a blog all about clogs if you will. And then of course there was the music which was just the icing on the cake. So the prize of return flights to Amsterdam, travel insurance and a free ticket to Blog08 goes to Epicurienne for this video about why she deserves to […]

The Royal Moscow Mule

October 06, 2008 / by / 5 Comments

Last Tuesday saw the return of the London Bloggers Meetup with a trip to Smirnoff for a mixology lesson. It was actually the 10th meetup I’ve organised and along with the help of Rax and co at Splendid Communications it was really quite a special night. As you’ll probably know, I am always interested in hearing from potential sponsors, well those who at least can provide some value or entertainment for our community of bloggers. In the past those sponsors who have tried to simply sell have generally fallen flat on their face. Splendid got in touch a while back and dreamt up some creative ideas for how to engage with the all of you bloggers. I don’t know who exactly devised the idea of a custom cocktail for everyone’s blog, but it certainly worked… I have to say I was delighted with my Royal Moscow Mule – see recipe below. Essentially everyone who attended had a cocktail custom designed for them based on their blog’s content and style. If anyone wants a case study on how to tailor your messaging to reach a blogger audience, I can’t think of a finer example. The research done by Rax and co […]
