The Blogger Interviews: Bernie J Mitchell
You might have noticed the last two London Bloggers Meetup events were hosted by someone other than me. After five years running these events for our blogger community on my own, my friend Bernie Mitchell volunteered himself to help out and I gladly accepted his offer.
Fear not, Bernie is every bit a blogger and is no stranger to running events too – he runs a small business owners community called TAG Tribe which has regular events throughout London.
I’ve known Bernie for maybe three years now and I can genuinely say he’s a smashing bloke. He’s going to bring some much needed energy back into our events and hopefully bring back the free beers we were all enjoying a while ago!
I asked Bernie to introduce himself here via our Blogger Interview questions, so without further ado, read on and find out a little more about Mr Bernie J Mitchell.
What’s your blog called and what’s the URL?
Engaging People – Engaging-people.com
What’s your blog all about ( in 20 words or less)?
Combination of Events, Networking and Business. I use words, video, podcasts and storify to convey my message.
When and why did you start blogging?
2005 – Started on blogger and loved the idea of “publishing” – took a long time to get in the swing of blogging though!
Which blog platform do you use?
WordPress
Can you give an example of how blogging has enriched your life?
It has connected me to people via comments and in person. When you meet someone at an event and can start talking about a blog topic you begin a much more meaningful conversation.
Are there any blogs you recommend reading and why?
Mitch Joel’s Six Pixels of Separation – joins the dots between traditional and emerging media.
What three tips would you give to someone just starting out in blogging?
1. Find the best way that works for you to capture ideas and turn them into content.
2. Just post! If you wait until you post is ready it never will be…..
3. Ask for help! Take a one day course or join a club – you’ll miss out all the little techie bits that hold you back.
If you could change one thing about your blog what would it be?
I am really happy with it! It is me I’d like to change, to be able to get on top once and for all ;-)
What is the key to getting readers to your blog?
Building a community and writing for them – make writing for your readers rather than finding readers for you writing.
And finally, why do you come to the London Bloggers Meetups?
I was on meetup.com and wanted to learn about blogging by meeting people rather than just reading on-line. – It worked! -)
Nice interview and the best piece of advice kept till last – that was a major breakthrough for me too a couple of years ago.
