George Emsden

It’s time for another blogger interview. This time we have some thoughts from George Emsden who writes a blog to help people with their financial affairs when they have cancer. I first met George at a London Bloggers Meetup in 2008 ish, let’s just say ages ago, and he struck me as a very decent sort of guy.

It’s likely you haven’t read George’s blog. It’s the kind of thing you might not come across unless you are specifically looking for it. But his writing style is superb, clear and entertaining. His frank look at the state of Cyprus and it’s Russian money is both entertaining and on the money – could you rob your own bank?

This is a blog well worth reading, even if George is a little short and snappy with his interview answers… over to you George:

1. What’s your blog called and what’s the URL?

Guidance with a Difference for People with Cancer

www.georgeemsden.co.uk

2. What’s your blog all about (in 20 words or less)?

George’s thoughts on: cancer, money, life, the universe

3. When and why did you start blogging?

2005.

Always wanted to write. Finally got started after having some coaching

4. Which blog platform do you use?

WordPress

5. Can you give an example of how blogging has enriched your life?

The testimonials and feedback like this one: “Your latest newsletter ‘Its too early’ took my heart away, and thank you for sharing it.”

6. Are there any blogs you recommend reading and why?

Seth Godin’s blog for brevity – http://sethgodin.typepad.com/

Tim Ferris blog – http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/

Henry Tapper’s The Vision of the Pension Plowman – http://henrytapper.com/ for “thinking outside the box”

PLUS David L Jones unscripted video blog – http://www.eevblog.com/2011/05/31/eevblog-175-project-sagan/ – this one’s a classic: watch for at least 60 seconds!

7. What three tips would you give to someone just starting out in blogging?

Get some writing coaching, write about what moves you, be regular

8. If you could change one thing about your blog what would it be?

Make it a podcast/sound blog like Alistair Cooke’s Letter from America

9. What is the key to getting readers to your blog?

Write about how you feel and be regular

10. And finally, what motivates you to keep on blogging?

I really enjoy it
